Public Law and European Law

In the seminar, special questions of Austrian and European public law are dealt with by means of presentations by the students on the basis of a written seminar paper as well as subsequent seminar discussions. The students will demonstrate their ability to work scientifically. Emphasis will be placed on the treatment of decisions, in particular of the ECJ.
The course will be held in cooperation with the ELTE Law School of the University of Budapest.
Two half-days of the seminar will take place in Vienna. Two half-days of the seminar will take place in Budapest.
The seminar will be held in English. The seminar paper is also to be written in English. After consultation, it is possible to write the seminar paper in German.

Learning outcomes:
After completing the course, students will be able to:
- independently assess issues of European law and fundamental and human rights law on the basis of the acquired knowledge of case law and literature.
- process these facts.
- present arguments independently and refute arguments presented in a discussion.

Attendance is compulsory in the units of the seminar. In justified exceptional cases, a short-term absence can be excused.

Writing and presentation of a written seminar paper, discussion during the seminar sessions. The seminar sessions will be held in blocks.

The assessment is based on the following aspects:
written seminar paper - 60%
presentation - 30%
oral participation - 10%
The written seminar paper will have to be handed in early summer. The exact date of submission will be announced in the preliminary meeting.
